HHHH Run 1500 Weekend, 11th August 2007

Please note that some of these details are provisional until we have a better idea of the total number of participants so that other hotels can be contacted, and transport organised.

Location

The run will take place during a Hash Weekend in the town of Bandipur which is 8km up a pitched road from Dumre on the Kathmandu-Pokhara road. To get there from Kathmandu takes about 3.5 hours.

Bandipur is an old Newari town situated at about 1000m above the Marsyandi River. It survives now on tourism, and has at least five hotels. Most of these are in or near the main street, except for the Bandipur Mountain Resort (which will be our main base), which is at the north end of the Tundikhel about ten minutes walk from the main street. The town has been tidied up a lot since 1983 when I did my VSO Nepali language training (people naturally still remember me!).

Being on a ridge, the potential for runs is somewhat limited, but making two entirely different ones for 1500 and 1501 should not be a problem. Both the Tundikhel and the main street are great places for circles.

We have hired three tourist-standard buses which will each carry up to 22 persons.

One bus will start from:

beside the the Yak and Yeti Hotel - from Durbar Marg turn in towards the hotel. At the first T-junction turn left and keep straight for 50m towards the Casino (i.e. don't turn right towards the hotel main entrance). You will then see the bus on the right in an empty lot. If you reach the police cubicle you have gone too far.

The number of the bus will be Ba 1 Pa 514 and the contact person is Prabal (Trouble) - 98510 78728

And one bus will start from:

St Xaviers School car park in Jawalakhel - this is on the west side of the main road from Pul Chowk to the Jawalakhel roundabout, 150m south (i.e. towards the roundabout) of the Saleways supermarket

The number of this bus will be Ba 1 Pa 165 and the contact person is the GeeMizz - 98510 32892

All buses will leave from their respective locations at NOT LATER THAN 2:30 PM, so people should aim for 2:00 PM to be sat in them. The buses will then meet up at Kalanki when the number of persons in each can be adjusted, if needed.

Hotel Rooms

- everyone to settle up separately.

Buses

- we will add the cost of all buses and divide it equally between all passengers. Currently, the rough cost we are looking at is Rs 650 per person.
