With a later starting time of 5.0 pm there were great hopes that all those who so lamely make excuses about 'wishing to Hash but never being able to make it' could now find the time. NO, forget them, they are really not keen or eager, and perhaps it is better just to have a regular bunch who really enjoy the evening. The Golf Course with a round dozen, and we were off just after 5.0 pm. Dodging 300ft drives by late golfers we cantered across. The course led by a hare (short of paper?) and then checked. A long check eventually found by Roger who took a long time to make up his mind about whether he could see paper or not. Over the top and down towards the ring road. Here the scribe got a lift from a passing goat going the same way - No Not what you think! A brisk trot along the ring road and then another check which really spread out the field and led once more upwards. We plunged through the wood round a collection of temples, no time to browse and down to the RIVER - Could the hares resist the temptation? Colin and Derek went across to see - NO, they could not, ON ON. Another check a long one with John WS finding paper back where we had started from and once more it was up and over. The run from here on in was difficult as we all took our various routes in the gullies on the hills and round the spurs. Who was right? Well there were a few cries of ON ON but mostly [shouts] of, 'checking'. At last Derek a ghostly figure in the Moonlight decided home was where the path led and, ignoring queries about paper, led [an] eager crowd straight through a Royal Nepalese Army Camp and back to the cars. The troops (RNA) behaved splendidly and few shots were fired, however the more timid hashers, not having army training, fled round the Camp and were seen to steal in much later with weak excuses about following paper. |
A very good hash, much enjoyed by all - Driving home in a gale with the rain lashing down I wondered about Tony who was last seen sitting at the Golf Club with a couple of chums about to start on the 30 Beers having finished the Rum. As the navy would say he was having a WET? Hash cash has been persuaded to give some figures. HASH
