This is going to be short and sweet as I’m not meant to be the scribe any more and I’ve got a bloody awful hangover. Firstly, there was not a single entry for last week’s competition so I declare myself [Russell] the winner of the free run for January 5. Most of us were exhausted on Monday after the festivities of the previous week but more especially after the Kedwell/Levitsky special on Boxing Day variously estimated at between 10 and 15 km. After that, anybody who turned up on Monday was nuts because Dave was hare again ably assisted by Eric. As usual the starting point had been intelligently chosed for these winter nights being an a high wind-swept embankment on the ring road renowned for its proliferation of brass monkeys. The start was great. We set off in the direction of five or six recently laid hashes of our own and other groups who think they have something in common with us. The Rising Nepal recently reported that this area of Kathmandu is fast becoming the industrial heart of Nepal with its burgeoning recycled paper mills. We got lost at the first check so Dave got fed up, led us back over the ring road and then directed us all the way [round] the run. It was really most relaxing not having to check and I believe we even witnessed the bloody twit pretending to look for his own paper. |
To give credit. where credit is due, the run actually was through very good hash country with lots of variety and just about the right length. Back at the chariots we soon got rid of the trash Australian beer and then got stuck into a nice drop of Harp from the old country. Some of the heavies stayed long into the night. JWS befriended a taxi driver whom David had somehow offended by dousing in beer (The Australian stuff) and I think we persuaded our newcomers that the HASH was a worthwhile institution.
