Himalayan Mens Hash Run No 0089 Monday 6 July 1981
Location Gorkhana Hares Kedwell and Frandsen
Hashit Gery Kennedy Scribe Gough? Hashers 18

The result of the FOURTH OF JULY RUN in Gokarna Forest was a resounding success for the HASH. Unfortunately it shows that if you run in the HASH it contributes to your fitness which is not the object of the exercise at all. Those whose names shall be writ in gold:

Wolczenski 1st, Tomlin 2nd, Schaeffer 3rd, Bransky 4th, McMullan 5th, Kedwell 6th, Shannon 11th, Russell 13th.

How the hell Bransky got up there in a field of 34 nobody knows and as for McMullan he just had to keep ahead of DK who was passing wind something dreadful. It should be noted that the HM was doing his job properly by sheparding his flock in ahead of him. (Incidentally Jerry W did the 3 miles of cross-country in 18 mins. 45 sacs. which is averaging 9.6 MPH - not bad for a 36 year old beer swilling ex chain smoker.)

On Monday we met again at Gokarna Forest, this time outside the gates but not knowing if we were going to he subjected to a Jackman/Levitsky leech special (what’s happened to those two guys anyway). This time it was Kedwell and Frandsen who blazed the trail and the thought of a Kedwell/Frandsen marathon with leeches thrown in was almost unbearable. To our relief we started going west south but the first check left us in disarray. A couple of false trails and a wide search kept us busy for a full 10 minutes before Jerry W (?) picked up paper and led us to the second check in death canyon. The paper went up vertically after that to the third check by a “peepul” tree which had us absolutely stumped. Perhaps 15 minutes later Guy Stone, I’ll repeat that, Guy Stone found paper down about 1000 ft. Most of you went down knowing you’d have to come up again, The wise ones stayed up (not short cutting - only catching up) and met you at the next check before we set off on a glorious run through hilly grasslands.

NELLA KCIR got the paper (Jesus, a legitimate mention at last) to a check which must surely have been the turn for home. Well we did turn in that direction briefly but then we went out again to a check near the Bagmati River. Here the whole run assembled for a breather but all we could find was a false trail. Again we were led out, this time by Dave McMullan, in a wide loop eventually crossing the Bagmati to reach the Boudhnath Road and a run in to the chariots.

A good run in new country but general opinion was a bit long - too long in fact for Kennedy, NELLA, Stone and Zonneveld who came back in a bus, “It wasn’t my idea” said Zonneveld.

Hashit - Gery Kennedy for coming home in a bus. The other marines say they’ll make sure he wears it all week.

Walking Stick - Iles was given it last week for turning up, but he didn’t turn up this week so he’ll get it again next week just f or turning up.

Hash No. 90 - Starting on the Ring Road at the Chapagaon (Leprosy Mission) turnoff (just west of the Godavari Road). Hares - Robinson and Barrett

HASH No. 91 — Hares - Wolczenski and Schaeffer

Announcement for the BEER drinkers - we are not quite breaking even with the beer money due to increased costs. Rather than raise the fee for running we are going to try the following - you are allowed 4 canned beers after which you put Rs. 5.00 in a kitty for each additional beer. There is no change for the soft-drinkers.

From the log book: 4 cases of beer purchased at $10.90 a case = $43.60 = 519 rupees giving an exchange rate of 11.8 rupees to the dollar
