Himalayan Mixed Hash Run No.120219 January 2002Hares: Leah and Hurry Krishna Location: Nepal Oil Storage Depot, Thankot |
What a great experience! At last we could finish a run and still stand up! The year's first balmy breezes brought a record number of 54 harriers and one mutt to a sunny parking place. The GM fumed about how much beer would disappear, but not about how much loot he would collect.
The initiated approached the run with some trepidation, for there has been a disaster or two set from this point. However Kathmandu Native Hurry Krishna, and the wise Leah were able to set a perfect run, with lots of loops for those not needing the exercise and useful shortcuts for those specially needing exercise. The trail headed off east, past the oil tanks and on to Check 1 on pasture land. The intelligent (?) pack immediately found paper and continued to traverse east to holding Check 2 at a favorite check location by a pipal tree. Paper predictably went down to the river, across it, and up to Check 3 on a road. Again, it was easy to take the uphill jeep track (and easier for two conscience-less harriers, Jodi and Hari to catch a ride in a trailer. The GM was onto them and settled scores later). Holding Check 4 was at a crossroads, and paper continued up and then looped west for a pretty run to holding Check 5, where the short cutters were waiting. This classic check at the Dakshin Kali Mai temple, is a pre Aryan hash starting point. In those days before computer printouts the Hash Subscriptions were carved in stone. We noted that the fees paid varied from Rs.500 to Rs.1. The former received single malt rakshi while the latter enjoyed fresh stream water. It was difficult to get the pack away from such an historical site, but finally most checked west, expecting (as in recent history) another hour of hill climbing. Instead the paper turned south on a road, crossed the river and climbed to back Check 6 in Thankot village. A downhill run to the chariots completed the course.
The beer did hold out, though we had many people to welcome:
Returnees: Nicolet, Cathy, Bengt, Mikael, Hari, Steffan
Newcomers: Martin, Cathy, Ian, Jerry, Lynda, Peter, Bindhya
Virgins: Pabhitra, Christina, Emma, Carsten, Anita, Kalpana:

The Deserted Fox relayed a score of 9.7 - right, by his reckoning, for such a run. Remember that there were nearby hills NOT climbed.
Our beloved GM quickly took care of various offences including a wanking Mikael. The ladies won the down-down contest. Thuy showed a posturing Casper how to put beer away quickly:

Martina made it through a down-down without laughing. Virgin car owners were christened, and too-clean cars decorated.
The GM received the Hashit because of a groveling email he sent to the Chicks after not spotting that the one of hash complaint they sent was a spoof. Neither did he get the U.S. Secretary of State to the run. Hopefully Nepalese-US relations will not suffer too much because of the faux pas.
