Location: Bhaisipati: Dawes Family Residence (UK House), with thanks for the hospitality
No. of runners: 43
No. of mutts: 2.5
Virgin: Graham Chaplin of DFID, who is the next door neighbour to the Dawes family, so too close to escape. WE EXPECT TO SEE HIM AGAIN, i.e. AT NEXT WEEK'S RUN!
Newcomer: Annetta, from GTZ, who has only four weeks to catch up on 3.5 years worth of missed hashes (but to be fair, it took me 14 years to turn up - GM)
Returnee: Viagro
Leaver (maybe): Sigi
Latecomers: Apple, who got a flat tire, and Hurry Krishna, who aimed at a 3:00 P.M. start, so followed paper backwards from the Chobar Bridge check (9?) to holding check 8, and then ran back to the on-in more or less on paper
Hash Crash: Rotter, who claims to have fallen 12 feet (3.6m - GM) while taking a shortcut from the shortcutters' trail
Birthdays: Christopher, who is 4 years old today, and his father, Keeled Over, who is approaching that mental age
New Shoes: Oliver and Sock Sucker
99th run: 69, who may live to run his 100th
Bikers: 69, Guano and Viagro: What did they do?
Hashit: Rotter definitely deserved it for the blatant shortcuts and bragging about them. The latecomers were possible choices. Certainly Sigi did NOTHING wrong, at least at the hash. One does wonder, however, why he is being deported. The unjust hash mismanagement therefore awarded Sigi the trophy -- NOT to be taken to Europe with him. Sigi's quick lesson in unstable equilibrium, while handling the trophy, was perhaps reason enough to get the award

All that was wasted time, but the run was super -- with perhaps 11 checks, a couple of which were holding. The walkers had their own pink paper course and able guide in Head Chopper. The run's many horrors enjoyed leading the way. Meanwhile the rest of the gang headed out and uphill, swinging right on a familiar trail, past a water tap, and to check one. Paper usually goes up from this check, but this time went down, with a false trail leading up a spur. We eventually climbed to check 2 at a little football field. Paper continued more or less level. Just before check 3, the pink paper turned right -- this was Rotter's excuse for heading straight to check 8.

Two false trails down to the left kept the checkers, busy, but we eventually continued straight south and met the Bungamati road a little north of the noodle factory. Check 4 was there. Paper started on a westward trail almost directly across the road, and swung south to the ridge's rim, where check 5 overlooked Kokhana. Paper went straight down to the usual irrigation ditch, and then right for a while, before dropping and wandering to check 6 near Sano Kokhana. (We've missed a check somewhere, but I'm not going to adjust the numbers now.) We continued down a bit, and up to meet the walkers, before scrambling up to the pipal tree and temple above the pine plantation (planted about 30 years ago by St. Xavier's scouts). We enjoyed a holding check there, and greeted Hurry Krishna. Rotter was also there, but few noticed. The walkers had their own route back, while the runners headed west and north to the Saibu pass and down to the Chobar bridge where we found check 9. Paper went up to the top of the Saibu village, and then down to the rice fields and check 10. Keeled Over quickly found paper, while Hurry Krishna took an upper trail. Tadpole and the Fox, splashed around in rice fields for a while before getting onto the trail -- fitting punishment for not going down to the bridge, but rather up through Saibu village to get ahead of the pack. One hole check 11 did not slow the pack down, and we were soon back to the beer. Many thanks to the Dawes/Potter kitchens for super snacks.
