This hastily arranged Yogi Hare special provided clear evidence that his memory served him well as it was virtually a repeat of Run 1276 with different On-In and Co-Hare. Hash 1324 started from an excellent site, slightly closer to the ring road than 1276 and 1190. This one was a little less eventful than that notoriously mismanaged event (dare I say it probably due to the presence of the GM who was not laid up with a virus unlike last week). But all the same it provided 49 proud hashemites with the chance to hone their uphill running skills. It started off with a steepish downhill run into the valley below the school, and Check 1 complete with a demon false trail that Fast Forward and Towed managed to call everyone back to, before running through a double cross and spending some considerable time chasing around on the completely wrong side of the valley whilst the rest of the pack found Check 2 and the steepish climb i.e. nearly vertical, up through a pine forest to Holding Check 3, halfway up, and on towards the hilltop gomba. The climb proved quite hazardous with the carpet of dry pine needles meaning that we had to take two steps up to make one step's progress. Check 4 at the top saw most participants realising that the route was beginning to resemble that from Run 1276 and heading off, correctly, to the right. The run continued to follow the route of Hash 1276 (May 2003), as it skirted the foot of the gomba and then dove down towards the Juge Khola and Check 5. The paper now meandered around the khet for a while before it led into Check 6 just beyond Ichangu Narayan temple. No quiz this time and no holding check in the temple, which Grumblewald, Lost Ark, Keeled Over and Towed had incorrectly anticipated. The hash then explored a number of steep hillsides but, for a pleasant change, with no long or exceedingly steep false trails. The final holding check was in a pretty mango orchard which Towed, having somewhat miraculously worked his way from the back of the pack to the front without actually having passed anyone on the trail, ran straight through. Ruru Lulu and Sanjeev had also managed to escape the clutches of Holding Check 7 and were leading the way on to Checks 8 and 9, which were on the road back, skirting the quarry this time via a maze of small paths before taking the back way in to the On-In. The Hares were awarded a resounding 20 for the double X on the false trail that caused chaos from Check 1. Other down-downs were:
And finally, for Hash Clap. Why the GM managed to inspire a round of applause and who got the down-down, if anyone, is not on record. Thanks to the Hares for an excellent run and to Mrs Rotter, Towed Under and others for the special Hash catering. |
