. . . . . . . . . Ah, I remember Kathmandu on December 4th, that glorious
clear winter day with spectacular views of the mountains to the North, well
laid trails that didn't go up and down to much, the bonhomie, the good comradeship,
etc., etc., . . . . . . . unfortunately I don't remember too much about
who did what, and to whom, so I'll just make it up in time-honoured Towed
fashion (at least I followed paper, most of the way). Hold the notes of
Hash 1300 to the mirror, substitute left for right, up for down, shouldn't
be too far wrong . . . . . .
The circle called to order at 14:20 by the stand-in master, Towed, having allowed those with merely ordinary 4x4s to slog their way up the hill. Hares called to the centre to explain the run, usual dodgy instructions from Grumble that confused more than they enlightened. Since we were starting near the top of the hill, first leg was, surprisingly, down, to the temple with the cleft in the rock (noticeable how many Hashers can't fit through this, about 120% of the pack, I'd say*). The FRBs tried to find a check circle at the car park below the temple, and milled round aimlessly because there wasn't one. Dropping down further to the north, the first real check sent many along the obvious track to the west (including Yours Truly). Contouring around to the north again, a check on the spur with a false trail cross within 10m clearly concealed the real trail continuing along the track a little way beyond. Checked out by many of the pack, including YT. The real trail on a very long back-check (a damn sight more than 200m, for which the Hare should have been Gherrao'd). Up the hill, to join the walkers pleasantly ambling along the higher contoured track. For the next Holding check site, see the main photo on the report of Hash 1300 (and reflect on how many of the pack now look older, sadder, but necessarily wiser). The obvious trails followed downhill and was accordingly checked out at length by Keeled, Towed, and YT, which cost us about 10min returning to the real trail up through the woods above the Pipal tree. Next holding check was combined with the walkers (nice one, hares, I always like to have a whole jury to tell me how sh****d I look). A long contouring run to the east, great views of the mountains to the north, which is why YT kept tripping over. Round the eastern flank, with Pulchowki in view, and up through terraced pasture with curious cows to another check on a grassy area on the ridge. Obvious which way to go now, west along the ridge top, but at the next check YT led a long and completely unnecessary circuit in the opposite direction, while the wise ones (and Towed) dropped down on to the track home. A glorious fast downhill run, with some of the pack still able to exceed a gentle amble. The American Embassy mob formed a tight platoon in front, the better to kick dust in everybody else's faces. An excellent run, on a lovely day, for which the Hares deservedly received a mark of 9.9 (I don't need notes on this one). As to the rest of you who received Down-Downs, well, you know who you are …… (translation: I don't). Scrummy catering as well, even without Kilroy's tit bits from Run 1300. * = Melamchi Engineer's estimate, including contingency Addendum Dear GM, The belatedly posted Trash 1359 sadly lacks any reference to the down-down given to Big Jim in the circle at Bishanku Nayayan. He was given one because of the American dollar's plunging exchange rate -- a matter of great concern to those of us who are paid in US dollars. I think that our readers should be informed of this.
