After
a fair interlude the hash returned to Pyataar this week and another Lao
Lover run. So all the smart arses knew where it was going? Not so;
having announced all sorts of complications, including seven checks, with
3 and 6 holding, the Hare pointed to
first paper in completely the wrong direction. It appears that hash rules
need some explanation to the Hares here.
Pyataar runs always start with the first paper off to the north, down into
the valley and a little bit west before heading across the stream and up
the hill.
Check 1 wasn't too far away to the south, and then the trail headed much more sensibly back to the north, with a brief mingling with the walkers before encountering Check 2 beside the road. This was a short back-check and led into a long climb up through pleasant open country then into young forest and to Holding Check 3 in a wide open space on the road at Jagadol. All were soon there, with walkers catching up very quickly. From here it became clear, for all except Griot, that we were into a left hand loop and heading back into more familiar Lao Lover territory. The trail headed north-west and to Check 4 and, with 5 options to choose from, the pack became a little scattered, especially me, who got so scattered it took about another hour to get from Check 4 to Check 7, missing 5 and 6 on the way. The usual trail from Check 4 seemed to be too obvious and heading too close to the On-In this early in the run so everyone went off checking the other 4 options, but of course the obvious way was where it went. Check 5 was somewhere in the forest, I'm reliably informed, and Holding Check 6 in the banjyang as usual. Check 7 was at the Gomba near Dandagoan, although not quite in the usual place, and the route home from there eluded me as well. All the rest were back in around 75 minutes and clearly the walkers hadn't done enough as Grace and friends started to work out whilst the rest of us got on with some serious drinking. Finally the Master called the circle to order which was, of course, the cue for Towed Under to bring out the cake and delay things for a further 5 minutes. The Hares were awarded a 9.9, despite there being no paper between Checks 4 and 7, the run being far too short, not being Lao Lover's usual route etc. Amongst others, down-downs were awarded to:
As a finale, Meri-Kay was then grossly victimised by the GM for a number of offences (separately) including having muddy knees. A final thanks is due to Kate for the overdose of mo-mos, Mrs. Rotter and Towed Under's skivvy for the other hash catering and to both Hares for a very nice run (and you can't get much more praise from Towed than that - except when he is describing his own run- GM). |
