Kruel promised a shortish run and a scenic walk. Knowing that he got his name for one of the most gruelling hashes in recorded history, I opted for the walk, which turned out to be notable for being very well marked with flour and arrows which usually pointed in the right direction.

We walkers headed up the hillside, more or less in the direction of the Hattiban Resort, expecting to reach a white house on top of a distinctive and very high hill. But we veered to the right, then made our way down a slippery, muddy track where the slower walkers all got left behind. After waiting for several minutes we took a vote on what to do, and decided that, as there were two walkers' hares, the more agile one should retrace his steps and guide the slow walkers. The rest carried on, led by a small girl who seemd to have a good idea of where she was going.

Following a watercourse along a scenic valley, we passed the place where tankers stop to fill up with supposedly pure drinking water from a muddy stream, then headed back across the road, skirting a lake brimming with fish just waiting to be caught (the sign said no fishing or shooting allowed) then looped back to the chariots via a pig farm. The whole walk lived up to its scenic description and took only one and a half hours.

The first runners arrived back a couple of minutes later, but there was no sign of the slow walkers. After we had pretty well given up on them, they phoned to say they were on their way. People were beginning to drift away (including 6 or 7 voluptuous looking virgins) who escaped before we had a chance to find out who they were. We were just about to stem the tide by starting the circle, when the slow walkers, led from the rear by Itchyballs, appeared from the direction of the pig farm.

Ably led by Victim, the circle then got under way. Down downs were awarded to:

The 3 hares
The remaining virgins who were still waiting for the Slow Walkers
2 newcomers - one from Oz and another (later awarded the Hashit)
2 tumblers
The Slow Walkers, including Itchy Balls
Griot ( for having shoes with non-matching laces)

The Hashit went to Asit, one of the Sanjiv horde from Nepalgamj, newcomer wearing extremely scruffy-looking shoes, which he insisted on claiming were new.

Victim

For a second opinion Kruel sent this to me from his hepatitis-ridden wreck of a body on 9th March.
